Designing Architectural Diagrams with the Latest Microsoft Fabric Icons

In the past, I’ve made a draw.io file for Power BI to help you using the right icons to design your solutions and make architectural diagrams. With Fabric, a bunch of new services and icons have been introduced. This asks for a new draw.io file.

With this blog, I will provide the draw.io file for all new icons and elements of Fabric.

Icons

As shared in the introduction, I’ve made a library with icons and draw.io file in the past for anything Power BI. All this has been shared in this GitHub repository and described in this blog. Also, you can directly get started building your Power BI solution architectures using this direct link.

With Fabric, there is a need for new icons. Good friend, MVP and community contributor, Štěpán Rešl, opened a few issues to add new icons to the official Microsoft repository for Power BI icons. However, Microsoft decided to provide the Fabric Icons in a different way directly via the learn website.

I took these icons from Microsoft Learn, and as stated on the website these icons can be used for architectural diagrams, training material and documentation. The draw.io library includes the following set of icons:

  • Fabric generic icon
  • Fabric experiences – colored icons (e.g. data engineering, real time analytics, Power BI, etc.)
  • Fabric experiences – monoline icons
  • Fabric items – monoline icons (e.g. notebook, pipeline, dataset, report, etc.)

You can start using these icons yourself, by using one of the following links:
